A brand promise expresses the reason why customers buy from you instead of someone else. You can begin to articulate your brand promise by answering these questions:
- What do you do?
- How do you do that?
- Who have you done that for?
Your answers should explain what problems you solve, what opportunities you help your customers take advantage of, or what threats you help them avoid. Point out what's different about the way you do business!
If you tell a compelling story, you will change the way people think about your company. A clear, concise, and credible story will make choosing your company a no-brainer.
Try a "Message Box"
A useful tool for pinning down the benefits you offer and crafting key messages is the message box. It has compartments for four points to make:
- A threshold message to engage the audience
- Your solution message describing how you’ll make lives better and jobs easier
- The action message explaining what you want people to do
- A reinforcement message offering proof that your solution works
It's a simple way to figure out how to talk to customers so that they hear your message and naturally want to respond.
